What is this world coming to? A Phantom of the Opera sequel? It’s just another way for Andrew Lloyd Webber to make more money. God, he must be desperate. Although, it’s probably going to be the same crap that he always writes. He has this formula that, when he finds it works, he uses it over and over again. I think it’s supposed to be called “The Phantom of Manhattan”. I really hope that this musical bombs so that it’ll just show ALW that sequels are never as good. Everything should stop at the original. It probably won’t bomb though, just because it’s Andrew Lloyd Webber, and a lot of people seem to think that he is a musical genius.
And another thing…
Making Shrek into a musical?!?!? I don’t think that this is such a good idea. I’m not saying this just because I didn’t really care for the movie, but I just don’t like the idea of this. I mean, come on. While some animated movies are successful, look what happened to Tarzan. It was only on for a year. The only thing that I am somewhat excited about with regards to this musical venture is some of the cast. Sutton Foster has been cast as Princess Fiona. I think that this is a brilliant move. If I were turning this into a musical, she would be the only one that I would ever consider to play this role. In other words, I think she’s PERFECT. She is currently on Broadway in Young Frankenstein, and has obviously done countless others. Chester Gregory has been cast as Donkey. You may not know who this guy is, but I personally am a big fan. This guy is amazing. He has previously played Seaweed J. Stubbs in Hairspray on Broadway, Terk in Tarzan the Musical, and is currently starring on Broadway in another John Waters movie – turned musical, Cry Baby. John Tartaglia has also been cast in the musical adaptation of Shrek. He has been cast as Pinnochio. I think that Tartaglia is amazing, but I think that he would be better served in one of the larger roles because of his talent. Obviously, they must think that Pinnochio is a large enough role because the character will be in the show, but I just think he counld have gotten a better role. John Tartaglia is amazing, and he has done roles on Broadway such as Lumiere in Beauty and the Beast, and Princeton/Rod in Avenue Q. Currently, he is the Writer/Creator/Star (whatever you want to call it) of the Playhouse Disney show Johnny and the Sprites. I personally am a little guilty of watching this show. It actually isn’t that bad (even though it is for kids). I don’t purposefully look for the show and watch it to watch it. I just flip through the Channels, and whenever I come across the channel when it’s playing, I just watch it, just because it ‘s him.
What do I think they should make into a musical? I think they should make Aladdin into a musical. I know that MTI has that show Aladdin Jr. and I know that there’s that Aladdin Musical Spectacular thing in Disneyland, but I’m talking about making it into a full-blown Broadway musical. The show at Disneyland is just songs from the movie. If they made it into a Broadway musical, just think about it. There are so many really cool special effects that they could do with the show. They could make it into larger than life stuff. They could really do a lot of good to the story, and I think that there is definitely some potential there for some really good new songs, and I already have ideas of who would be really good for certain roles.
Maybe I’ll post those in a later blog, but as for now, I think that I should sing off.
Until later…

I think Aladdin on ice is coming through town soon. I can't imagine it will be any good.

Will do!
Law & Order the musical. Or how about a cooking show musical? Everyone loves music and food! Hey, you asked!
Thanks for stopping by my blog and for the comment.
I too, love musicals (I know, homo--musicals, what a shocker!).
I saw Spring Awakening on Broadway the night after it won the Tonys. It was one of the coolest theatre experiences I've ever had.
Check out William Finn (pre Putnam County 25th Spelling Bee).... Falsettos, A New Brain--is one my favorites, sort of ironic, given recent events in my life.
BTW, I'm totally with u on ALW.
Here's something that was taught to me: Soundtracks come from movies or TV. Theatre has Original Cast Recordings. Some musical theatre people get touchy about the distinction and not calling a .
