The World's Biggest Procrastinator

I've said it before, but I'll say it again. I am a HUGE PROCRASTINATOR.

Case proven right now.

Right now, I am supposed to be studying for my finals that are next week, but I'm NOT!!! I bet you're wondering... What am I doing? Well right now,, besides typing this blog out to you guys, I am watching the NFL Draft. Yeah, I know. I am acting like SUCH A GUY right now. Why would a girl like me watch the draft? I don't know. I just like watching it. I can't really tell you what it is about it that I like.

Anyway. Enough of the draft talk.

I so cannor wait for this semester to be over. That would mean that my first year of college would be over. I seriously can't believe that it is almost here! It's gone by so fast!

England is just around the corner. I CAN'T WAIT FOR THAT!!! I am beyond extatic. I am actually going to be there for a whole month! I'll be there from May 6th to June 5th. England is my favorite country in the whole world, so I bet you can see why I can't wait to go.

Well, I know that this blog is really short, but I just really can't think of what to blog about right now, even though I felt like blogging. Oh well!

Until next time...

My thoughts and feelings on Andrew Lloyd Webber

Today in my blog, I’m going to talk about something that I am not too fond of, and that is Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber. Some people (in fact, many people) regard his work as genius, but I, for one, think otherwise.

With ALW, I just think that it’s basically the same stuff every time. He has found a formula that works, and is using it over and over again apparently.
I actually find some (ok, most) of the songs that in his musicals to be not good at all. Believe it or not, I actually find “Phantom of the Opera” and “Cats” to be rather boring. The only songs from “Phantom of the Opera” that I like are “Phantom of the Opera,” and “Music of the Night”. And from “Cats”, I only really LOVE “Memory”. And then there’s “Jesus Christ Superstar” from “Jesus Christ Superstar”. Those 4 songs are where it’s at for me.

Now, let’s talk about some of his other stuff. And yes, I did do a little research for this blog, because how in the hell would I remember all of this crap about someone that I don’t really like anyway? Thank GOD for ibdb.com.

Ok. We all know about some of his “more famous” stuff, so I won’t mention those really.

He did a show called “Aspects of Love,” and that lasted less than a year. A revival of “Joseph”, less than 6 months. A revival of “Jesus Christ Superstar,” only 4 ½ months. He created this show called “By Jeeves” back in 2001 that only lasted 2 months. If he was as good as everybody says that he is, don’t you think that he would create something that would have more longevity? Most recently, he wrote music for a musical called “The Woman in White”. This “masterpiece” lasted for 3 months.

When he produced shows…

Did you ever hear of a show called “La Bete”? Didn’t think so. It only lasted less than a month on Broadway. Who the heck would want to put their name on something like that? He also produced a show called “Bombay Dreams”. Now, I have heard of that show, but here’s the thing. I had NO IDEA that he was involved in that show. Not a good sign, is it?
This “musical genius” is currently working on a sequel for “Phantom of the Opera”. I believe that the sequel to “Phantom of the Opera” is going to be called “The Phantom of Manhattan”. Don’t even get me started on this one. Ok. I guess I will say a few things. Why set a sequel so far away from the original? And another thing. Why would he want to ruin something that already wasn’t that great to begin with? I sure as hell wouldn’t.

Sometimes, I just get the feeling that Andrew Lloyd Webber is just in it for the money. What do you think?

What am I doing?

Right now I am watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I have never seen the movie all of the way through, so I went to my school’s library, and I rented it (along with 5 other movies, although some aren’t really movies). You may be wondering what I got. Ok, ok. I’ll tell you.

I got:
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Into the Woods
Supersize Me
Sling Blade
Gypsy <-- with Natalie Wood
Peter Pan

Watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory all the way through for the first time has got me thinking. How scary does Johnny Depp look as Willy Wonka.? I don't know about you, but if I were a little kid, I would probably be scared out of my freaking mind. He just looks too wierd.

Anyway.... I've also realized that when they made this into a movie again (from the original), they left out my out one of my favorite scenes. Do you remember the scene in the original where Charlie and his grandfather broke away from the group and they walked into that room and drank the Fuzzy Lifting drinks, and then they started rising up? I don't know why, but I just loved that scene. I just thought it was so cool.

I loved the original, but this one is good too. But, if I had to choose, I would say that the original was better. I mean, it is the original, and it's Gene Wilder. How could you not love him???

Oh, and I almost forgot. I want to tell you about something that I bought a few days ago that I am so excited about. I bought "The Cronicles of Narnia". Yes, it's all the books in one big book. I got it because I remembered reading them when I was a child, and a couple of days ago when I was shopping, i thought it would be cool to read them again, so I went to the bookstore, and bought that big book. I can't wait to start reading it.

I'll probably start reading it tonight after I get back from thisbig fair/block party thing that my school is throwing, which will probably end around 11. It starts at 8, so I'l be there for 3 hours. But honestly, I don't think I'll get tired of it.

Anyway, I am going to go to the cCaf right now to get something to eat, so I'll talk to you later.

Until next time...

Some of my favorite songs from Broadway musicals

And yes, it has been drifting off to thinking about musicals. I’ve been listening to soundtracks from musicals, and I was just listening to The OBCR of The Little Mermaid. And it got me thinking. What are some of my favorite songs from musicals? I thought I’d go ahead and list them here for you so that you could see if we share some of the same favorites.

- Her Voice – The Little Mermaid
- Dancing on the Sidewalk – Fame
- Not For the Life of Me – Thoroughly Modern Millie
- Let’s Plat a Love Scene – Fame
- She’s in Love – The Little Mermaid
- Rent – Rent
- Home – Beauty and the Beast
- For the First Time - Tarzan
- Everyone’s a Little Bit Racist – Avenue Q
- I’m Not That Smart – The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
- Bitch of Living – Spring Awakening
- Mama Who Bore Me – Spring Awakening
- Totally Fucked – Spring Awakening
- The Morning Report – The Lion King
- It’s Your Wedding Day – The Wedding Singer
- All About the Green – The Wedding Singer
- Omigod You Guys- Legally Blonde
- So Much Better – Legally Blonde
- Music of the Night – Phantom of the Opera
- Defying Gravity - Wicked
- Waiting for This Moment- Tarzan
- and pretty much any song sung by my friend Chase Peacock, who is currently in the National Tour of High School Musical

I would have to say though, that out of all those songs I just listed, that "Her Voice" would have to be my favorite. I don't know what it is about that song, but every time I listen to it, it always moves me to almost tears. I just love it so much, and I think that Sean Palmer is amazing, and I just love his voice. If you haven't heard that song, YOU REALLY NEED TO!!!

This list could go on and on. I just love musicals. I consider myself to be a very musical person. I truly do believe that my life would be better if it was just one big musical.

Musical Thoughts...

What is this world coming to? A Phantom of the Opera sequel? It’s just another way for Andrew Lloyd Webber to make more money. God, he must be desperate. Although, it’s probably going to be the same crap that he always writes. He has this formula that, when he finds it works, he uses it over and over again. I think it’s supposed to be called “The Phantom of Manhattan”. I really hope that this musical bombs so that it’ll just show ALW that sequels are never as good. Everything should stop at the original. It probably won’t bomb though, just because it’s Andrew Lloyd Webber, and a lot of people seem to think that he is a musical genius.
And another thing…

Making Shrek into a musical?!?!? I don’t think that this is such a good idea. I’m not saying this just because I didn’t really care for the movie, but I just don’t like the idea of this. I mean, come on. While some animated movies are successful, look what happened to Tarzan. It was only on for a year. The only thing that I am somewhat excited about with regards to this musical venture is some of the cast. Sutton Foster has been cast as Princess Fiona. I think that this is a brilliant move. If I were turning this into a musical, she would be the only one that I would ever consider to play this role. In other words, I think she’s PERFECT. She is currently on Broadway in Young Frankenstein, and has obviously done countless others. Chester Gregory has been cast as Donkey. You may not know who this guy is, but I personally am a big fan. This guy is amazing. He has previously played Seaweed J. Stubbs in Hairspray on Broadway, Terk in Tarzan the Musical, and is currently starring on Broadway in another John Waters movie – turned musical, Cry Baby. John Tartaglia has also been cast in the musical adaptation of Shrek. He has been cast as Pinnochio. I think that Tartaglia is amazing, but I think that he would be better served in one of the larger roles because of his talent. Obviously, they must think that Pinnochio is a large enough role because the character will be in the show, but I just think he counld have gotten a better role. John Tartaglia is amazing, and he has done roles on Broadway such as Lumiere in Beauty and the Beast, and Princeton/Rod in Avenue Q. Currently, he is the Writer/Creator/Star (whatever you want to call it) of the Playhouse Disney show Johnny and the Sprites. I personally am a little guilty of watching this show. It actually isn’t that bad (even though it is for kids). I don’t purposefully look for the show and watch it to watch it. I just flip through the Channels, and whenever I come across the channel when it’s playing, I just watch it, just because it ‘s him.

What do I think they should make into a musical? I think they should make Aladdin into a musical. I know that MTI has that show Aladdin Jr. and I know that there’s that Aladdin Musical Spectacular thing in Disneyland, but I’m talking about making it into a full-blown Broadway musical. The show at Disneyland is just songs from the movie. If they made it into a Broadway musical, just think about it. There are so many really cool special effects that they could do with the show. They could make it into larger than life stuff. They could really do a lot of good to the story, and I think that there is definitely some potential there for some really good new songs, and I already have ideas of who would be really good for certain roles.

Maybe I’ll post those in a later blog, but as for now, I think that I should sing off.

Until later…
